My thinking was, "Stop being a cranky hip-hop head who complains about not hearing what he wants to from rap music. You have the skills, make it yourself."
Aside from a few acts (Kanye, Ghostface, Kendrick, a few of my homies), no one was really making that brutally honest rap, not that "this is that real shit" that sounds like fake life, but that, to quote Raekwon da Chef that "this is real like me falling outta this chair right now 'real'" shit.
My songs aren't too cool to cover all the emotions, the winning, the losing, the pride, the embarrassment, the past, the future, the fun, the somber. I wanted to make something that accurately reflects the WHO WE ARE rather than WHAT WE PRESENT, feel me?
So on this album, we don't take ourselves too seriously or sell ourselves short, we dance, we get advice, we cringe, we reminisce, we reflect, we declare, we get silly, we reveal. I kept the songs pretty short in general, but nothing feels incomplete. I think it's the kind of album that reveals more and more with repeated listen.
